I have always been conscience of our Earth. I appreciate the fact that I am alive and live on this great place. I feel I do my part most days. I’d love to hear what you do on cutting back consummation and helping Mother Earth.
1.)We recycle everything that can be recycled. We have two gallon rubbermaids in our laundry room; one for cardboard/paper and one for plastics/aluminum/glass. We fill them up usually within the week.
2.)We use cloth napkins at breakfast/lunch/dinner. I got this idea from Erin. Definitely makes us feel special and it saves paper.
3.)I use reusable shopping bags almost every time I grocery shop! When we do get the plastic bags from a store, we keep them and reuse them as garbage bags in the bathroom and bedrooms.
4.)I use Kleen Kanteens for my water bottles. I have a 40oz and a 27oz and use them constantly. We also have a brita pitcher in our frig and a pur filter on the tap. The only time I buy a plastic water bottle is when we are in NYC.
5.)We use energy efficient lightbulbs and turn off lights/electronics when not in use. We aren’t 100% on this, but I feel we are at least saving something. Also we don’t turn on our heat/air unless absolutely necessary.
6.)I am almost 100% paperless with my business. I do print out invoices/orders and that’s it. I am glad to not have extra paper laying around since I’m limited on space and saving lots of trees.
7.)We use Method cleaning products. I know I should probably just make my own, but these make my life so much easier.
8.)Instead of using Purell, I purchased Clean Well hand sanitizer last year. I’m not sure if it really gets my hands super clean but I appreciate the fact that I’m not ingesting alcohol and its biodegradable.
That’s all I can think of right now. Please leave a comment with what you are doing. I always love to hear them!
I couldn’t resist sharing the following photo. Anthony got candles on Monday (since I didn’t get to blow out any candles on my b-day) and we put it on the last full cupcake from Crumbs. I have to say that I’m not usually a chocolate cake person, but this was HEAVENLY! Very moist after two days in the refrigerator and there was a little surprise of icing in the middle.
Christina - I do a few things, none of which is really huge, but every little bit counts, right?
1. My bathroom gets great light in the morning… so today, I took a shower with the shade open and the window cracked, so I used neither my lamp nor the exhaust fan.
2. I make my own cleaning stuff when I can, and use Method when I can’t.
3. I also just bought some CleanWell stuff.
4. Recycle everything, including cups from Burger King and my Lean Cuisine trays. I take stuff home in my lunchbag since we don’t have recycling at work (how dumb is that??)
5. Also use reusable bags when I remember.
6. I buy organic when we can afford it…. especially yogurt for A and milk (when it’s reasonable to do so on the milk).
7. I turn off the power supply to my desktop computer when it’s not in use.
That’s all I can think of right now.
