walking the canal

Man oh man the fall colors are peaking and I’m in love! Driving along any road will pretty much guarantee reds, yellows, oranges, and green with leaves sweeping along with the wind. Anthony and I walked down the D&R Canal to capture some of this in action. For your viewing pleasure!

I love that the man in the corner is in his inflatable canoe!

Anthony found him a nice walking stick at the beginning of our walk!

Anthony is really working my camera – this is actually in total focus and not on auto!

He is one good lookin’ man!

I cannot confirm nor deny that this may just be on our Christmas card this year.

home ec projects | kim learns to sew

I haven’t had much time to sew lately but I was able to get these items finished a little bit ago and wanted to share. As I mentioned in this post, it seems lots of people are having babies in our community. I love the fabric on this bib/burp cloth and it fit with the ladies little girl to join CRW.

Official home ec project – working with a zipper and doubling up fabric. I will be honest, either we had some awesome instructions or zippers just always get a bad wrap. I had no trouble working with it. I do have to say that I will probably end up using this for a makeup bag instead of a pencil case!

Thanks for looking!

home ec projects | second edition | kim learns to sew

A quick update on my sewing shenanigans! I seriously have the sewing itch. I love looking at fabrics and thinking of what I can make with them. How I can be crafty and save money. Here is one project from my Home Ec class (yes you will notice from this post that I am skipping around a little bit – project 8 is making curtains. They don’t scare me but I feel we are pretty set on curtains for the time being. I really have to think of the right fabric to put in our bedroom before I do it! Hopefully when things slow down a bit I’ll get to the curtains!).

Living in the community that we do fosters family life a great bit. And with that comes baby showers!!! This is the first time I have actually made something for someone. I’m really proud how all three items turned out. The reversible bib is the official Home Ec project, and I went a little further and made a burp cloth + a diaper bag tag. I have to say that Anne loved them and that is the biggest compliment!

Home Ec

As I mentioned in this post – I am taking an online class about sewing. Friday was actually the last day for getting instructions but we’ll have an entire year to discuss with the teachers and forever to talk with other classmates! Go figure I started my first project on the last day of class but whatever!

One thing that was holding me back was I had no where to actually put my sewing machine. Our dining room table is bar height which isn’t conducive to sewing. It took some rearranging our bedroom and living room but I finally have a place in the corner of our living room. And I have to thank my mom for her sewing abilities (and the sewing machine!). Watching her enough times I at least knew how to string my thread, how to tear out a seam, how to use the rotary cutter, etc. Thanks Mom!!!

The motto in the Schmidt household is “no one ever said it had to be perfect!” Hopefully by the end I’ll have mastered the straight line business, but for now my projects work. ๐Ÿ™‚

Love the idea of these gift pouches. Everyone may be getting these for Christmas (with something inside of course!)

My straps are huge so the next time I make one of these I’ll adjust them (also there is sneak peek of an estate sale find from this weekend that is awaiting a stain treatment after I sanded it Saturday – to be used at a session coming up!)

I really love the fabric I found for the ironing board cover. It was a pain to put this together and it’s FAR from perfect (the back side is NOT pretty!) but I really like how it came out!

I know that there isn’t a project 4 – it’s bunting and I don’t have all the material. That will come in my next post.

Lots more projects to come.

Just stopping by to tell you how great your projects look! The fabric for your ironing board is fabulous!
I’m happy to hear you have finally found a special place for your sewing. Hopefully you’ll spend lots of time there!
Take care,
emily

washington dc photographer get together

Saturday I went down to Washington DC or more specifically the Georgetown area for a photographers together (thanks Michele for driving us!).
Rebecca and her dad drove cross country from Seattle, Washington so he could attend the Glenn Beck rally. While her dad and brother attended the rally, we had lunch, chatted, walked down to the river to get some photos, swapped lenses, chatted, took some headshot photos, chatted, walked back up to M street, chatted, used the restroom, stopped in to Anthropologie, chatted, grabbed something to drink, chatted, restroom break, chatted, group photo, chatted, Kelly left, chatted, walked around, stopped to chat on someone’s stoop, walked back to the parking garage, chatted and then dropped Amy and Rebecca off at the metro. All in all not a whole lot of shooting went on but a whole lot of talking did!

Hello my beauties!!!

Does Kelly not have the most incredible blue eyes? I think she does!

Can’t forget about the hilarious, liberal one who was stuck on a crowded metro with Tea Party-ers!

The paparazzi were in town – must have been someone famous around!

We stopped a gentleman to take our photo so yay for successful group photos!

Coming up later – a blog post from a fabulous maternity session held at Grounds for Sculpture in Hamilton!
