Several weeks ago I had the opportunity to tour the grounds for sculpture in hamilton with the central nj tri delta alumnae group. It was the perfect day – weather was gorgeous and the fellowship was wonderful!

Happy Earth Day! That mop looks super cool. Do you have hardwoods? I would love to hear more about this! I think it’s great that you are taking so many steps to be green, too. We’re trying to get better as well. It’s for the kids, ya know? Even if it’s a small step, it’s a step, nonetheless.       Anthony and I drove down to Wilmington, Delaware to the Hagley Museum to celebrate my 27th. It was very peaceful, we had beautiful weather, and it was just what I needed. This photo is of the family home – Eleutherian Mills. 5 generations of the DuPont family lived in this home. It was built in 1803.
We also spent the evening with all our neighbors/friends cooking on the grill. I am so thankful we live in this great community – and that they all came out to celebrate. I’m pretty sure I got them with homemade cupcakes!

Looks like you guys had fun! Happy birthday!! 🙂 I’m not sure if you gathered from this post that I’m a huge Wicked fan but I am. When I was first thinking about writing this post, two lines sung by Elphaba from Defying Gravity continued to run through my head. Something has changed within me These two lines really resonant with me as I turn 27. 6 years ago Anthony got down on one knee two days before my 21st birthday to ask me to be his wife. The proposal wasn’t anything special, but it was very much us. We have come a long way since our junior year in college and the excitement of being able to legally drink. We have made two entirely differently places home, making friends and then leaving them, the ups and downs of marriage, the joys and stresses of grad school, the fun times of being able to see parts of the country many people only dream of seeing, and growing as individuals. When I looked ahead to my future (not sure I ever dreamed about 27), I never pictured myself living in the northeast and being a photographer. I was for sure I’d be a nurse or something in the medical field. Strange as it may be, nursing is what lead me to photography. I was finishing up a few science classes I wasn’t able to squeeze in at OU at the community college in Nashville when I discovered they offered photography classes. I took several classes and voila! here I am today. I did dream that we’d be starting a family by this time. Now that I’ve reached 27, I am perfectly content it being Anthony and I. We have so much more living to do. I have become a better educated citizen, knowing what is going on in our world and standing firm in my beliefs. I am passionate about federal funding for education, libraries, and healthier, affordable food options for all families. I am deeply passionate about reading and literacy. I also know that I am not perfect and have learned to accept me for who I am. This past year has been very trying on me. I felt that my strength and faith have been tested many times over. Any type of addiction affects family, friends, and those around you, no matter how near or far. This is the first birthday that I have not spent it with my mom – due to the circumstances with my nephews. That is tough. Even at 27 I still want my mom around for my birthday. I love celebrating with her. That part of me has not changed. Anthony and I haven’t made up our minds entirely on what we are going to do today, but hopefully it will involve some beautiful flowers and trees!

Enjoy your day and the trees and flowers. I seriously love having my iphone! Anthony makes fun of me when I have my iphone in one hand and my camera in the other. There is something about the ease of the iphone (and I love being able to tweet & facebook the photos to make everyone jealous of our adventures!!) Friday night we had dinner at Caliente Cab Co. in Greenwich Village. Yum-O! When we were walking to Caliente from the subway we say the wafels and dinges truck parked (dinges are the toppings you put on your Belgian wafel). It rang a bell and then it dawned on us they were on Throwdown with Bobby Flay. So on the way back from dinner we stopped for our desert. And I cannot go into NYC without stopping at Crumbs Bakery! Here is the good part and where our luck changed! Anthony and I went to the matinee of Promises, Promises. As we were walking to our hotel we “passed” (being a relative term since its on a street we weren’t walking down – but I saw the sign) by the Wicked theater. On a whim I said, let’s try to get tickets to see Wicked tonight. We walked down to the theater to see a line forming. We got in line and I asked the 4 high school kids in front me of what the line was for (being so naive!). They told me it was for the lottery and that was about it. Then I overheard two guys behind us chatting about if they should stay in line or not. I turned around to ask them how it worked. They said how there are 14 pairs of tickets up for grabs at each performance. So we waited in line for 15 minutes, put our name in the drum, waited 30 minutes, and slowly they began calling names. AND MY NAME WAS CALLED!!!!!!! I was in shock, then elated, then tears began welling because I just WON the incredibly tough Wicked lottery. The middle photo is me after we were up with the other winners. And then the following photo are all the losers. We spent $52.50 for two 2nd row seats! Totally the best night I’ve had in a really long time. And don’t tell anyone that I took iphone photos of the stage and final bows.

Looks like so much fun! i need to schedule a vacation for my husband and I in NY one of these days (he has never been and I’ve only been once).
